ASID End of the Year Party and Officer Elections

ASID Officer Elections   If you would like to run for the ASID Office of Publicity, Competitions, or Fundraising for Spring 2008, write a short (1/2 page or less) statement on why you would like to be elected to this office, and then send it in an e-mail to me, Lindsay Christensen at lmlchristensen@gmail.com by TUESDAY, December 4th at 11:59 PM.
You can also attach a picture if you'd like.  I will print them out and post them in Ayers 101 during the End-of-the-Semester Party on December 5th.  This is when people will come and read your statements, and then cast their votes!  See below for details regarding the open positions and the party!
We have 3 open officer positions for the Spring semester, so we will be holding officer elections during our next meeting on December 5th. It doesn't matter what year you are, and you can still hold a position next school year if you choose to hold one next spring. These are great opportunities if you want to get your feet wet as an officer, plus it will look great on your resume!

The open positions are as follows:

  • Publicity Chair   Responsible for posting calendar of events and meetings and keeping ASID headquarters informed of newsworthy events as his/her school. Ashley Carrion currently holds this position.
  • Competitions Chair   - Keeps all student members up to date on current contests, scholarships, and opportunities within the design community. This position requires time for research, as well as, keeping in contact with the faculty advisor and officers. Chelsea Grabham currently holds this position.
  • Fundraising Chair   - Plans events, such as raffles and sales, and is responsible for knowing university policies regarding fundraiser and should guide the student chapter accordingly. Angela Polimeno currently holds this position.
If you are interested in holding one of these positions, we will be holding our elections during the meeting on Wednesday, December 5th. We know that not everyone can attend the ASID Meetings so we'll be holding a longer meeting -  WITH FOOD AND DRINKS!!!   - so that people can come and go as their schedule permits and that everyone can see who is running (by reading their statements) and can put in their vote.  It will be from 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM and the officers and advisors will be there (off and on) to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks and I look forward to receiving your statements.  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

Thanks!

Hi again!

Thanks again to everyone who dropped off donations for the White Elephant Sale TOMORROW!
  • We could always use more stuff to sell, so feel free to drop your things off - everything is located in the back corner of the classroom (Ayers 101) by the scanner.  We're selling clothes, shoes, jewelry, music, housewares...anything you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!  So be sure to stop by the sale - WEDNESDAY, November 28th from 11:00 - 5:00 pm to check out the goods and support ASID!
  • We also need more volunteers to help during the sale.  You can find the sign-up list outside of the classroom taped to the glass case.  We need to fill those open spots!!  They're only half an hour increments, so whenever you can help, that would be great!
Thank you in advance for all of your help!  Feel free to reply with any questions!!

**American Society of Interior Design Student Chapter Announcements**

Hi everyone! We have a few things coming up right after Thanksgiving so I wanted to send an e-mail to get it all out there to you. So here goes!

White Elephant Sale Fundraiser
- on Monday, November 26th we'll be taking your donations for the ASID Annual White Elephant Sale Fundraiser. Bring your items into Ayers 101 between 1:00 and 5:00 and it will all be sorted a ready for the sale on Wednesday, November 28th. I've attached a flyer for the sale - and gather your items over the break because we needs lots and lots of stuff to sell! Clothes, shoes, CD's, posters, household items, jewelry - anything that is clean and sell-able would be great! We also need some volunteers to help work during the sale. We'll be setting up starting at 10:45, and then we'll need volunteers all day, plus more for a quick clean-up starting at 5:00 PM. I'm attaching a sheet showing the volunteer slots, so you can see where we need some help. E-mail me and I can add you to the list. Thanks so much!!

Luminaire Design Competition - For those of you interested in product design, here is the flyer for the ASID-sponsored Luminaire Design Competition that we are holding next spring! I won't say much about it as it's on the flyer, but the due dates are next March, so starting thinking about ideas now - there are 2-$200 cash prizes!!

Two ASID Student Competitions

www.asid.org .

Greetings Students!

ASID has important announcements to make regarding two student competition opportunities - one new and one existing.

First, ASID is introducing a new, private online community space being added to the ASID Web site. The online community is similar to the popular Facebook Web site, except that access is restricted only to ASID members. Each member will have a personal profile page and a personal "home" page to keep track of friends and contacts, postings, news, events and activities within the community. Privacy settings allow you to control how much information you want to share with other members of the community. There is even a private e-mail account to send and reply to messages just within the community, thereby keeping your business or personal e-mail inbox free of additional messages.

The only thing this social networking community is missing is a great name. ASID wants you, the students, to name this community! To participate in this competition, simply think of a clever name for the ASID online community and e-mail your idea to mberens@asid.org by November 20, 2007. Once all the submissions are received, ASID will decide upon three finalists and then present these names to all student members in late-November to vote upon and select the winner! The student who provides the winning name will receive an exclusive, chic, unisex ASID black messenger bag, as well as prominent recognition on the site and in ASID ICON magazine. Just think, you could name the ASID online, networking community that 40,000 members take part in! This is too easy to pass up!

Second, as a reminder to those participating in the national ASID Student Design Competition, the deadline is Friday, January 4, 2008. This deadline is very firm this year as the entries will be judged the following week. Please be sure to have your competition entry arrive to ASID at the address below, no later than January 8, 2008 to be considered for this prestigious award.

Attn: Member Development ASID 608 Massachusetts Ave., NE Washington, DC 20002

We look forward to receiving your entries for both competitions!
