ASID MEETING AND OFFICER ELECTIONS




We are having an ASID meeting on Wednesday May 6th at 6:30 in PAC 261. We will be holding officer elections! If you want to run for an office, PLEASE E-MAIL ME!

WE NEED ALL OFFICES FILLED, OTHERWISE ASID WILL NOT CONTINUE!! The majority of our officers are graduating! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CURRENTLY BE IN ASID TO BE AN OFFICER!!

Please seriously think about running for an office. ASID is a great thing and we would all hate to see it go because nobody volunteers their time!

T-SHIRT INFORMATION, ASID MEETING, AND GOOGLE SKETCH UP WORKSHOP

Hey everyone,
We are finally getting t-shirts!! If you did not pick up an order form in either classroom or outside on the case, you can print out this order form (JPEG). The t-shirts are $18.00 and look as shown in the picture.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN ASID TO BUY A T-SHIRT!!! They are for ALL interior design students. If you have friends or classmates that don't get this e-mail, please send the information along!

Order forms are due by
FRIDAY, APRIL 17th WITH PAYMENT. If you are unable to do that, please call Rachelle or me, or e-mail me! IF YOU WANT A SHIRT AND DON'T GET YOUR ORDER FORM IN, GET IN CONTACT WITH RACHELLE OR ME AND WE CAN ADD IT TO THE ORDER BEFORE MONDAY!!!

Graduating seniors: Please notify me if you want to get a grad shirt that we have talked about. Please give me your size (they will be a girl's style shirt) and your color preference. If we do not get 24 shirt orders, we cannot order them! They will be $15.00!

MARCH ASID MEETING

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all had a great spring break. Too bad now it is back to school! It's definitely time for our March ASID meeting! So here's the date and some things to look forward talking about:

ASID MEETING
Wednesday, March 25th
6:30 PM (after CAD) in PAC 261

We will be talking about the Student Career Forum. I have some people lined up to talk about the classes they attended as well as some photos of people's projects from the event! We will also be talking about some workshops we are planning. Michael is planning a beginning sketch up workshop as well as an advanced. I am planning a drafting workshop and trying to nail down a date and time. We will also be discussing some possibilities for the student showcase reception.

WE WILL ALSO BE PAYING DUES ($10). PLEASE BRING THIS WITH YOU TO THE MEETING!

MARCH ASID MEETING

HEY EVERYONE,
I KNOW MANY OF YOU ARE EXPECTING MEETINGS TO HAPPEN THE FIRST WEEK OF EVERY MONTH. IN AN IDEAL WORLD, I WOULD LIKE THAT. BUT I JUST REALIZED THAT IT WAS MARCH. SINCE OUR SPRING BREAK IS IN A WEEK AND HALF AND MANY STUDENTS ARE ATTENDING THE STUDENT CAREER FORUM, I WILL BE PLANNING THE MEETING FOR THE WEDNESDAY AFTER SPRING BREAK. HOPEFULLY THEN WE WILL HAVE SOME MORE UPDATES ABOUT THE THINGS WE TALKED ABOUT LAST MEETING (STUDENT SHOWCASE LOCATION AS WELL AS T-SHIRT BIDS) AND WE CAN HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE CAREER FORUM. SINCE I AM NOT ATTENDING, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW IT DIFFERED FROM LAST YEAR. WE ALSO HAVE SOME STUDENTS THAT ENTERED THE COMPETITIONS SO WE WILL HEAR FROM THEM AND SEE THEIR PROJECTS. I APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE THAT THIS MEETING WILL BE SO LATE BUT IT SEEMS LIKE A HECTIC TIME FOR EVERYONE WHILE TEACHERS SCRAMBLE TO GET THINGS TURNED IN BEFORE BREAK.

SO THE TENATIVE DATE FOR THE MEETING IS:
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25TH AT 6:30 PM IN PAC 261

ALSO, I WANT TO DO A DRAFTING WORKSHOP THIS SEMESTER SINCE THE DRAFTING CLASS WAS CANCELLED. I HAVE IMMENSE KNOWLEDGE OF DRAFTING AS WELL AS SOME TRICKS BECAUSE I WAS TAUGHT BY A FORMER TEACHER WHO WAS THE BEST AND EXPECTED A HIGH LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE FROM HER STUDENTS. I HAVE HER HANDOUTS WHICH ARE A GREAT RESOURCE TO PASS ON!!! I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHEN THE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN NEED OF DRAFTING ARE AVAILABLE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Aylin Garrett

Aylin Garrett, representing Feizy Rugs, is a 10 year veteran of the rug industry. Aylin has an extensive knowledge of fine and antique area rugs. Originally from Turkey, Aylin is excited to share her knowledge of rugs with all of us and answer your rug related questions. A special treat, Aylin will also be serving Turkish Coffee.

Gil Flores has been in the floor covering industry for over 23 years. Harvest SaleHe will be here representing Nourison. His experience and knowledge is in area rugs, as well as broadloom carpeting. Gil also has knowledge in manufacturing as he's had the opportunity to visit carpet mills in England, Belgium and Spain. He'll be here to discuss history and manufacturing of rugs including answering your questions relating to rug fiber content and care.
Our design team will also be on-hand to answer your questions.

THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPETITIONS PUT ON BY THE CAREER FORUM. THESE COMPETITIONS ARE FREE WITH REGISTRATION TO THE EVENT!! SOME ARE MORE ADVANCED AND OTHERS ARE SUITABLE FOR BEGINNING STUDENTS. SOME OF THE PRIZE MONEY RANGES UP TO 500 DOLLARS!!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND STUDENTS TO ENTER SEEING AS HOW SOME CATEGORIES HAD ONLY FIVE ENTRIES!!!

- NANTUCKET WORKSHOPS -
NANTUCKET IS HOLDING A WORKSHOP ON RUGS. REPS FROM THE CARPET COMPANIES WILL BE THERE FOR AN EVENING FILLED WITH INFORMATION! THEY WILL BE DEMONSTRATION HOW TO BUY RUGS, TAKE CARE OF RUGS, AND HOW TO STORE RUGS. AS WELL AS HOW RUGS ARE MADE. NANTUCKET WILL SERVE UP SOME GOODIES AND REFRESHMENTS. - FIELD TRIPS -
WE ARE PLANNING A FIELD TRIP OUT TO BENCHMARK. IT IS A GRANITE SHOWROOM AS WELL AS QUARTZ. THEY CARRY LARGE SLAB GRANITE AND QUARTZ. RACHELLE, OUR TREASURE, IS IN THE WORKS PLANNING A FIELD TRIP, SO WATCH OUT FOR THAT COMING UP!!

- FUNDRAISING IDEAS -
WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING A VALENTINE'S BAKE SALE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO SIT AT THE TABLE AS WELL AS MAKE BAKED GOODS. PLEASE E-MAIL ME OR LEAVE A COMMENT ON THE BLOG IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. WE WILL GET A COMMITTEE TOGETHER OF PEOPLE INTERESTED AND MEET TO PLAN WHO IS DOING WHAT. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO BE DOING A BURGER FEED AT MADISON BEAR GARDEN. WE WILL HAND OUT FLIERS AND ON A SET DAY AND TIME FRAME, ALL SALES PURCHASED WITH THE FLIER WILL DONATED $1 TO THE CLUB! DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS!!! I WILL BE PUTTING FLIERS OUT IN THE CLASSROOMS AS WELL AS IN THE CASE OUTSIDE AYRES AS SOON AS WE GET A SET DATE!

- STUDENT SHOWCASE -
FOR THOSE OF YOU NEW STUDENTS, EVERY SPRING SEMESTER, THE INTERIOR DESIGN DEPARTMENT HOLDS AN ANNUAL STUDENT SHOWCASE. STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO SUBMIT THEIR DESIGN WORK FOR DISPLAY IN A GALLERY SPACE. WE USUALLY DISPLAY OUR PROJECTS ON THE SECOND FLOOR LOUNGE SPACE IN THE BMU. HOWEVER, LAST YEAR ONE OF OUR PROJECTS GOT DAMAGED. WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND ENERGY ON OUR PROJECTS AND I THINK WE NEED TO FIND A BETTER LOCATION!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A LOCATION RIGHT NOW. A GALLERY SPACE OF SOME SORT (WHICH IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE). ALL GALLERY SPACES WE'VE CONTACTED SO FAR ARE BOOKED UP FOR A YEAR (OR MORE) IN ADVANCE. SOOOOO... IF ANYONE HAS ANY HOOK UPS WITH GALLERY SPACE, PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

THE OTHER OPTION WE ARE THINKING ABOUT IF NO GALLERY SPACE IS FOUND, IS DOING A STUDENT SHOWCASE NIGHT. WE WOULD INVITE MEMBERS OF THE DESIGN COMMUNITY AROUND TOWN TO ATTEND. USUALLY DESIGNS ARE BROKEN UP INTO CATEGORIES, AND AWARDS ARE GIVEN. WE WOULD HAVE REFRESHMENTS, PRESENT AWARDS, AND SET UP ALL THE STUDENT WORKS.

FINALLY..........
- WORKSHOPS -
I WOULD LIKE TO HOST A DRAFTING WORKSHOP (POSSIBLY WITH TAMI FAULKNER) SINCE THE DRAFTING CLASS WAS CANCELLED THIS SEMESTER. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED, PLEASE LET ME KNOW DAYS AND TIMES (EITHER E-MAIL OR THROUGH THE BLOG) AND I WILL SET UP A DAY/TIME THAT WORKS.
I HAVE A TON OF HANDOUTS FOR STUDENTS ON DRAFTING AS WELL AS SHOWING YOU THE TOOLS AND SOME TRICKS TO MAKE DRAFTING EASIER! IT WILL BE A GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE!!
